Withington - A snap shot of history
Last week we were presented with a plaque by the Lord Mayor on behalf of Historic England to mark us as a Heritage School. Miss Donnellon accepted the award from the Lord Mayor.
This was the culmination of work this year for years 3-6 whereby the children have taken part in a local study of the Withington area.
At Ladybarn we wanted to get a sense of what it was like to live in our community 100 years ago, during the World War I era. We therefore pursued a number of avenues of interest for us that really delved into the lives of Withington residents, including for example a study of a WWI soldier and the examination of the role played by women in the war.
We learnt a great deal from the project, and have been able to demonstrate that knowledge through a variety of mediums, including green screen work and augmented reality. We have really gotten ‘in touch’ with our Withington roots and feel we know much more about the community we live in.
There is an exhibition of the project at Central Library in the city centre, this is free to view so if any parents would like to attend it's going on throughout the summer.
